The Idol Kings

For four years, The Idol Kings have been thrilling their audiences with such a close representation of Journey, that they sometimes don’t believe what they are hearing is live. “One of our biggest challenges”, said Michael Crow who sings the Steve Perry parts, “is convincing the audience that we don’t use any prerecorded backing tracks.” He added, “I guess that’s a good problem to have.” It’s true that Michel’s voice is an identical clone of Perry’s, and yes even the high notes, but that’s just the beginning. Guitarist Charlie Russello, who was voted guitarist of the year at the Electric City Music Conference, plays the part (and notes) of Neal Schon to a Tee. Tone for tone and note for note Schon’s riffs are executed perfectly. Once you add the rest of the band, bassist Mark Wanko who played bass on tracks by Bob Dylan, Luther Vandross, and Curtis Steigers among others, keyboardist Adam DeTroia, who’s father was a first call session man in NYC playing on albums by Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, The Monkees and countless others, drummer John Carpenetti who’s is a perfect fit for the part of Steve Smith, and finally Candi Vee on Background Vocals, it is a recipe for musical nirvana. Quickly becoming known as the most accurate Journey tribute in the north east, The Idol Kings have attracted crowds of over 5000 to their headline shows. But large crowd or smaller crowd makes no difference in the bands intensity and energy. To them, every show is a sell out and the last thing the Kings would want to do is let someone leave without being completely floored by the performance.
