Jimena Turner, Director of Wine Education for Wines of Catena in Mendoza, Argentina, embodies the sophistication and international character of Argentina's celebrated food and wine culture.
Born of a Welsh father and Argentine mother, Jimena began her professional education in North Wales as an honor roll graduate of College Menai, specializing in hotel and restaurant management. She honed her craft at some of the hospitality world's most prestigious properties, including the Royal Celtic Hotel in North Wales and the Mathis restaurants in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Jimena's experience with international cuisine gave rise to a passion for wine, which lead her back home to Argentina and the vibrant wine culture of Mendoza. She has continued her education in the detailed practices of viticulture and winemaking, working side-by-side with the vineyard managers and winemakers of Alamos.
"When I began in the industry, I had to learn a great deal," Jimena said. "One of the winemakers told me 'Everybody can make good wine, but wine is more than quality. It is what is behind the bottle, the passion you give to it and the way you convey this knowledge to others.' There is a lot of this kind of thinking at Alamos, and I try to express it in all that I do."
Since joining the Catena organization in 2006, Jimena has developed innovative wine education and hospitality programs, while traveling the world to tell the story of Alamos wines at events around the globe.
