David Yarrington began his fascination with beer after many hours of field research during college led him to start home brewing. Having graduated from Colby College in 1992 with a degree in Chemistry, he found himself, after a mandatory year as a ski bum in Wyoming, at the doors of the Twenty Tank Brewery in San Francisco. They hired the eager young lad and quickly put him to work thus launching his commercial brewing career. Several years later after having worked at Tommyknocker Brewery, Golden Pacific Brewing Co., The Commonwealth Brewpub he landed in Japan to work with his brother starting Tokyo Brewing Co. They brewed Tokyo Ale in 1997 and David spent just under three years on a scooter selling the beer throughout the Japanese capital. Their dream of a brewpub in this notoriously crowded city was finally conceded so David enrolled in the UC Davis Master Brewers Program to better understand the science behind the art of brewing.
In August of 2001 he took over the duties of Executive Brewer at Smuttynose Brewing Co. to bring his energy and unique insight to the small regional brewery located idyllic seacoast city of Portsmouth, NH. Their beers were soon recognized as some of the finest in New England and their distribution footprint quickly expanded down the Atlantic coast and out into the Midwest. To fill this new demand for their beer David is currently overseeing the design of a new LEED certified brewery located on the historic Towle Farm property in Hampton, NH.
