"Ishtar" is a highlight on the diverse program illustrating the troupe's versatility and Albano's choreographic range in the various dance idioms. The magnificent set is two backdrops designed by Broadway's Leo Meyer, depicting the Gateway of Ishtar through which the Babylonian Goddess enters the underworld.
Another world premier on the program is "Americana." A work in progress, Albano declares, "This piece is evolving into a full length story ballet traversing American happenings, stylistics and attitudes." "Americana" opens with a tribute: two movements to the music of the late Connecticut composer Charles Ives, including his variations on "America (My Country 'Tis of Thee)." Turmoil, war, and sorrow comprise another act with two movements created to American traditional music.
From the Albano Ballet Company's repertoire is the delightful romantic, "Strauss Waltz." The ballroom ballet is presently touring Italy and Germany.
Bursting on stage in vibrant colors is Gershwin's musical theater showpiece "An American in Paris," with sets by Lester Polakov, the late legendary Broadway designer of "Call Me Mister." The impressionistic Jazz score is backed with a Dufy-like backdrop collage.
